Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set this dry mixture aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until fully combined into the butter mixture.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until firm.
Once the dough is chilled, scoop out tablespoon-sized portions and roll them into balls.
Roll each ball in powdered sugar until completely coated and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set, but the centers still look slightly soft.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Arrange the cookies on a colorful plate, dust lightly with additional powdered sugar, and serve with a glass of milk for a delightful treat!
